Customer Questions & Answers
-
Question:
What are UV squid jigs and how do they work?
Answer: UV squid jigs are specialized lures designed to attract squid and other marine species using ultraviolet light. These lures emit a glowing effect in water, making them highly visible to squids, particularly in low-light conditions. When jigged up and down in the water, the action mimics the movement of prey, enticing squids closer. Anglers often find success using these jigs during nighttime fishing trips or in deeper waters where light penetration is minimal, enhancing their chances of a great catch. -
Question:
What are the benefits of using glow shrimp prawn lures?
Answer: Glow shrimp prawn lures are effective because they mimic the natural look and movement of shrimp, a favorite food of various fish species. Their luminous quality attracts fish, especially in murky waters or low light situations, increasing your success rate when pursuing fish like octopus, cuttlefish, and squid. Anglers can benefit from these lures not just during night fishing, but also during overcast weather when natural light conditions are poor. -
Question:
Can I use UV squid jigs for freshwater fishing?
Answer: While UV squid jigs are primarily designed for saltwater fishing, they can attract certain freshwater species, especially those that prey on smaller fish or aquatic creatures. However, the effectiveness of these lures in freshwater depends on the specific species and local conditions. Anglers might find moderate success with these jigs targeting larger predatory fish that are opportunistic feeders. -
Question:
How should I retrieve a squid jig for optimal results?
Answer: For optimal results, the retrieval of a squid jig should be varied to imitate the natural movement of prey. A common technique is to let the jig sink to the desired depth, then employ a 'jigging' motion by rapidly reeling in while simultaneously lifting the rod tip. This erratic action can effectively trigger instinctive responses from squid and other marine life. Experimenting with different speeds and patterns can help find what works best in your specific fishing environment. -
Question:
What fishing rods and reels work best with squid jigs?
Answer: The best fishing rods for squid jigs are generally shorter, sensitive rods that offer quick action, allowing for precise jigging and faster retrieves. A light to medium action spinning reel is typically paired with these rods, as it helps cast lures effectively while providing enough strength for larger catches. Choosing a setup with a braided line is also recommended, as it offers excellent sensitivity and strength to detect subtle bites. -
Question:
Can I use these lures for octopus fishing?
Answer: Yes, UV squid jigs are particularly effective for octopus fishing. Their design mimics the natural prey of octopuses, and the glow attracts these creatures in deeper water. When jigging, the motion can entice octopuses to strike, making your fishing experience more fruitful. Many anglers use these lures with a double hook system to ensure better hook sets when targeting an octopus. -
Question:
How many lures come in the UV squid jigs kit?
Answer: The UV squid jig kit includes five lures, each designed with vibrant colors and luminous qualities to attract squid and other marine life effectively. The variety in the kit allows anglers to experiment with different colors and sizes, increasing the likelihood of finding the ideal lure for their fishing conditions. This assortment enables anglers to match the lure to the fish's mood and the environment. -
Question:
What is the best time of year to use squid jigs?
Answer: The best time to use squid jigs generally falls during warmer months when squid are more active and feeding. Additionally, spring and fall are peak seasons for squid fishing as these periods see increased squid population and migration. However, successful squid fishing can still be achieved year-round, especially during specific lunar phases, such as near the full moon when squids are closer to the surface. -
Question:
Do I need to use a leader line with squid jigs?
Answer: Using a leader line with squid jigs is often recommended, especially if fishing in rocky or snag-prone areas. A fluorocarbon leader can help reduce visibility in the water, making it less likely for fish to detect your line. Additionally, a leader line provides extra abrasion resistance, which is beneficial when dealing with sharp teeth or rough underwater terrain. This setup can significantly enhance your chances of securing a catch. -
